Descent to the Obsidian Core
The black tides of Vael'thallan had receded even further than the previous day, exposing the slick, glass-slick stairways leading into the Drowned Sanctuary's innermost sanctum. Here, beneath basalt arches encrusted with luminescent sea slime, the air smelled of ozone, stagnant ocean brine, and raw cosmic energy. The sea shrieked against the sunken outer walls, but within the subterranean crypt, the atmosphere was suffocatingly still. Seven Lions descended into the dark, their pawsteps echoing off mirrors of dark volcanic glass.
High above the flooded arena suspended in the central nave drifted Cosmora the Astral Devourer. The ancient entity was an impossible sight—an immense, rift-tearing vortex of void-black ethereal armor, encircled by grinding rings of condensed dark matter and pulsating cosmic starlight. The Cunning horror did not merely float; it watched. Its ethereal gaze drifted across the entering host, assessing weapons, armor, and spirit, instantly discerning the linchpins of the mortal formation. There was no thunderous roar, only a cold, vibrating resonance that shook the bone marrow of every warrior present.
The Initial Assault
The clash began without preamble. Cosmora surged forward, sweeping a spectral mantle across the arena floor and tearing at the war host with immediate violence. The impact shattered initial defenses, leaving Rainblaze and Artisano severely wounded before the line could fully assemble. Yet defiance flared immediately from the vanguard. Chromalio stepped into the spray of black water, channeling shadowy essence into a brilliant Shadow Piercer strike. The blow struck Cosmora's central core for a devastating critical strike, weaving a silencing hex that temporarily choked the boss’s vocalizations and suppressed its next cosmic burst.
Seizing the brief window created by Chromalio’s silence, the Lions rallied in fluid coordination. Goldspirit, wielding primal ferocity, unleashed a critical Attack Of Panda strike that carved glowing furrows through the void armor. Aeroblade leapt across the sunken glass floor, bringing down a Thunder Cleave that sent electrical shocks rippling through Cosmora's dark matter rings, locking the entity in place and exposing its flank. Rainblaze and Ignix channeled ancient healing cantrips of Maya to mend fractured ribs and torn hide, while Goldarion bellowed a battle cry that ignited Rising Fury within his blood.
With Cosmora held in stasis by the shock, Chromalio sank a Toxic Bite into the rift's edge, dripping caustic venom into the ethereal wound. Goldspirit pressed the advantage, executing a monumental Crimson Cleave that slashed into Cosmora for 830 direct damage, temporarily dulling the entity's offensive edge. Aeroblade and Rainblaze struck in unison with Armor Breaker maneuvers, splintering the celestial armor plating and leaving the Astral Devourer visibly fractured.
The Siege of Gravity
The reprieve was brutally brief. As the control effects dissipated, Cosmora unleashed its devastating specialty: the Gravity Well. The ambient pressure in the chamber multiplied tenfold. The black water beneath the Lions' feet flattened into a rigid sheet, and every warrior was dragged helplessly toward the swirling epicenter of dark matter. The cosmic crush tore through the entire war host, bruising bone and straining lungs under impossible weight.
Recognizing Goldspirit as the primary threat, Cosmora’s cunning intellect took hold. The entity singled out the top contributor, slamming Goldspirit with focused force. Though battered into a critical state, Goldspirit answered by channeling the Regeneration Of Maya, restoring vital strength to stay standing. Ignix delivered a Weakening Slash into the vortex, desperately trying to temper Cosmora's wrath.
In the fifth movement of the siege, Cosmora exploded outward in a massive area-of-effect assault. The crushing force swept across the glass nave. Artisano, already severely weakened from the initial onslaught, was crushed against the basalt pillars and eliminated. Rainblaze, caught in the open tidal channel, succumbed to the shockwave and fell lifeless into the dark foam. The war host was instantly reduced to five.
The Aegis of Ignix
With two allies lost and dread mounting, Ignix stepped into the breach. Raising a massive war hammer, Ignix slammed the weapon onto the volcanic stone, invoking the Forge Barrier. A brilliant dome of molten orange light erupted around the surviving warriors—Goldspirit, Goldarion, Aeroblade, Ignix, and Chromalio. The barrier granted immediate damage reduction and empowered the survivors' attacks, turning what should have been a rout into a heroic stand.
Behind the safety of the radiant shield, the remaining Lions lashed out with renewed fury. Goldspirit drove forward with relentless strikes, dealing critical hits of 681 and 721 damage in rapid succession. Chromalio's blade flashed like lightning through the shadow, landing critical strikes of 465 damage. Aeroblade and Ignix carved deep wounds into the dark matter rings, refusing to bow to the abyssal horror. For a fleeting moment, the glowing light of the Forge Barrier held the shadows of Vael'thallan at bay.
Cosmora, however, adapted with calculated cruelty. Focus firing once again upon Aeroblade and Goldspirit, the Astral Devourer hammered against the orange aegis. Ignix’s barrier absorbed dozens of lethal blows, preventing catastrophic damage, but the sheer strain began to crack the spectral glass flooring beneath the Lions.
By the eighth round, the continuous onslaught tore through the remaining wards. Cosmora gathered the ambient shadow and unleashed a second catastrophic broadside across the sanctuary. The shockwave shattered the Forge Barrier completely. Ignix absorbed the brunt of the magical feedback, standing as a shield until the very end before collapsing to the obsidian floor, eliminated from the fight. Aeroblade was swept away shortly after as the Gravity Well expanded once more, leaving only Goldspirit, Goldarion, and Chromalio to face the final dark tide.
In the ninth and tenth rounds, the living fortress revealed the full extent of its terrors. Cosmora pulled the three surviving warriors into the vortex once more with a relentless Gravity Well, hammering Goldspirit with targeted malice. Though broken and bleeding, Goldspirit fought on, landing a final 361-damage blow alongside Chromalio's desperate strikes. But the strength of the war host was exhausted. In a final, chamber-clearing burst of dark matter energy during the tenth round, Cosmora obliterated all remaining resistance. Goldspirit, Goldarion, and Chromalio were eliminated simultaneously, sealing a absolute defeat.
The silence that followed was broken only by the cold lap of the black ocean rain against the submerged arches. With all seven Lions fallen and 7,000 PIXY in total stakes lost to the depths, the raid concluded with a total payout of 0 PIXY. Cosmora hovered victoriously over the glass floor, absorbing the fallen war host's efforts into its celestial vault. A massive supply of raw materials—including 5000 ⚫ Coal—was claimed and added to the boss's hoard, joining the treasures of previous failures in the dark depths of Vael'thallan.
