The Abyss Reclaims Vael'thallan

The Black Tide's Return

The black tides of Vael'thallan receded only long enough to expose the slick, crumbling floorboards of the ancient submerged vault. For three consecutive days, the war host had marched into these obsidian chambers, only to watch their efforts swallowed by the sea and dark matter alike. Now, on this fourth siege, eight veteran Lions stepped onto the brine-soaked threshold, their boots splashing through lingering puddles of saltwater rust beneath the dim violet glare of an eclipsed star.

High above, torrents of ocean water cascaded through shattered fissures in the volcanic glass dome, drowning the room in a rhythmic, deafening roar. In the atrium's center hovered Cosmora the Astral Devourer, its rift-tearing vortex pulsing with lethal gravity. Dark matter rings ground against one another with the screech of shifting tectonic plates. The entity's cold, calculating focus lingered over the vanguard, searching for the pillar holding the formation together.

Disciplined Fire

The battle began with pristine coordination. Ignix led the assault, channeling the fury of ancient beasts to slam a crushing blow into Cosmora's ethereal shell for 332 damage, followed instantly by Goldspirit, whose critical strike carved a glowing rift through the dark matter for 410 damage. Beside them, Astroleon lunged forward, sinking a Toxic Bite into the boss's swirling armor and infusing the astral vortex with corroding venom that promised steady decay.

Cosmora attempted to counter, singling out Neroth in the backline with cold precision. Yet Aeroblade intercepted the dark energy, raising a tempestuous blade to execute a Thunder Cleave for 151 damage. The electrical shock locked Cosmora's grinding rings in place, forcing the cosmic horror to lose its action entirely as the residual thunder reverberated off the basalt pillars. For a brief moment, the Lions held total mastery over the drowned sanctuary.

The Singularity Collapses

Capitalizing on the boss's paralysis, Goldspirit gathered his momentum and unleashed Crimson Cleave, driving his blade downward in a catastrophic arc that ripped 830 damage from Cosmora's core. Weakening slashes from Ignix and Neroth further crippled the entity's offensive power, while Aeroblade shattered its ethereal guard with an Armor Breaker. Dynarion swiftly followed, sinking a second Toxic Bite into the boss's flank.

Then the void snapped back. Recovering from the shock, Cosmora initiated its specialty power, opening a localized Gravity Well at the rotunda's center. The violent gravitational pull tore through the war host, dragging every combatant across the slick obsidian floor. In the same breath, a wave of dark matter washed over the squad. The initial crushing force instantly overwhelmed Astroleon and Neroth, extinguishing their life flames before they could break free of the singularity.

Seeing the formation crumble, Ignix raised his arms and cast Forge Barrier, weaving protective runes across the remaining six survivors. The barrier absorbed the brunt of Cosmora's immediate follow-up, granting Goldspirit room to leap through the gravitational warp and land a critical Toxic Bite for 888 damage, followed by Dynarion's blinding thrust.

Desperate Improvisation

With their strict battle plan shattered by the loss of two comrades, the surviving Lions adapted on the fly. Goldspirit took the brunt of Cosmora's focused retributions, his armor shearing away under the astral devourer's cunning target selection. He restored his vitality with Maya's divine light and immediately swung back for 694 and 533 damage in quick succession, proving why the boss deemed him the army's central threat.

Around him, the secondary line fought with fierce grit. Goldarion landed repeated strikes while using his remaining mana to restore his health, and Aeroblade found critical seams in the boss's cosmic shroud for 197 and 208 damage. Yet Cosmora's pulse never wavered. The entity continually regenerated its cosmic energy, weaving subtle gravitational pulls that chipped away at the party's stamina and ruined their footings on the wet basalt.

Drowned in Dark Matter

By the tenth round, the protective barrier collapsed entirely under Cosmora's relentless wide-area bursts. Ignix fell first in the eleventh round as dark energy pierced his depleted guard, followed seconds later by Dynarion, whose final strike was cut short by a crushing gravitational shockwave.

Left as a trio against the full might of the astral horror, Goldarion, Galacturion, and Aeroblade stood shoulder to shoulder atop the crumbling vault edge. Cosmora spoke no words, but the grinding rings around its core accelerated to a blinding speed. A final, unavoidable Gravity Well surged across the flooded floor, sweeping the last three combatants into the fathomless ocean trench below.
