I. The Descent Into Glass
The air beneath the supernatural eclipse was motionless, cold enough to freeze moisture on iron plates before breath could escape the muzzle. Only the previous day, another brave attempt had ended in ruin upon the upper tiers of the Obsidian Ziggurat of Oros. Now, the surviving path led downward into the exposed lower catacombs—a subterranean labyrinth carved from seamless volcanic glass, where the starlight of the surface was swallowed whole by an eerie, swirling violet sky.
Monolithic slabs of obsidian floated silently in the low-gravity wake left by Cosmora the Astral Devourer. The ancient citadel smelled of burnt ozone, dry sand, and pulverized bone. As the four warriors crossed the threshold into the central amphitheater, the space around them warped visibly. Nebular smoke drifted upward from jagged fissures, coalescing into the towering, starlit form of the entity that had held Oros in terror for six long chapters of battle.
There was no fanfare, nor any room for hesitation. Cosmora spun on its axis of hollow gravitational energy, fixing its gaze upon Goldspirit. The entity lashed out instantly, striking with cruel precision. Though Goldspirit raised armor plates to defend against the initial shock, the brutal force rattled the warrior's skeleton. In response, the lions opened their assault. Goldspirit retaliated with the ferocious strength of Attack Of Panda, carving a gash of emerald light across Cosmora's form for 410 damage. Beside Goldspirit, Auravion struck forward, while Dynarion invoked Attack Of Panda for 260 damage. Darklyn channeled the surrounding magical resonance into a dazzling Radiant Burst, dealing 743 damage and surging with heightened power.
II. The Shattering Tide
The initial success was brutally short-lived. Cosmora, enraged by the sudden radiant display, unloosed a sweeping wave of compressed gravity that slammed into every warrior simultaneously. Auravion, caught in the epicenter without adequate defense, was instantly overwhelmed and eliminated from the fight before a single follow-up blow could be struck. Dynarion felt armor plates fracture like brittle parchment under the force, while Darklyn and Goldspirit stumbled across the slick volcanic tiles.
Recognizing the desperate need to sustain the vanguard, Goldspirit invoked Regeneration Of Maya, knitting wounds with 103 points of restorative essence. Dynarion followed suit, casting Regeneration Of Maya to restore 65 points of vitality. Darklyn, still empowered by the Radiant Burst, stepped through the floating shards of obsidian and struck Cosmora directly for 563 damage.
Then came the specialty of the monster. Cosmora opened its core, creating a crushing Gravity Well that dragged all remaining lions toward its epicenter. The pull tore away 77 health from Goldspirit, 21 from Dynarion, and 67 from Darklyn. Before they could untangle themselves from the crushing field, Cosmora launched another broad atmospheric wave. Dynarion was caught mid-air as gravity buckled, taking a catastrophic blow that ended the brave warrior's stand entirely. Darklyn struck back once more for 542 damage, but the force of the void was growing heavier with every passing second.
III. The Lone Vanguard
Goldspirit drew upon deep reserves, utilizing Regeneration Of Furry to recover a surge of spent mana. As Cosmora surged with power, Goldspirit seized the momentum to inflict Toxic Bite, sinking venomous spiritual fangs into the entity for 515 damage and lacing its hollow core with a persistent poison. Darklyn added a final strike for 454 damage, but Cosmora singled out the radiant warrior immediately after, unleashing a targeted execution that eliminated Darklyn on the spot.
Alone in the violet shadow of the ziggurat, Goldspirit refused to yield. Weaving Mist Veil for 433 damage, Goldspirit slipped through the distortion, gaining enhanced focus while the poison continued to burn Cosmora from within for 53 damage each tick. Gravity pulled and tore at Goldspirit's body, dragging away another 77 health, yet the lone survivor stood ground upon the shattered glass floor.
Driven by sheer instinct and defiance, Goldspirit leaped through a shower of obsidian fragments and delivered a massive critical strike for 586 damage. Cosmora countered with a sweeping assault, but Goldspirit defended narrowly, holding the line. Bloodied and isolated, Goldspirit gathered every ounce of strength for one final, heroic surge, driving a second devastating critical blow deep into the celestial smoke for 653 damage.
The eighth round marked the end of endurance. Cosmora the Astral Devourer gathered the surrounding gravitational currents into one final, overwhelming burst that shattered the remaining defenses of Goldspirit. With 83 health swept away in an instant, the last lion collapsed onto the cold, violet-lit obsidian floor. The expedition had reached its end, defeated once again in the dark heart of Oros.
The fallen party was forced into a bitter retreat, leaving behind the dark sanctuary. No rewards or performance payouts were claimed from the failed expedition. Instead, fresh spoils brought into the citadel were claimed by the conqueror. Items including a 🧪 Alchemical Vial and 🥚 Egg were absorbed into Cosmora's mounting hoard, joining the relics of past failures beneath the permanent eclipse.
