The Weight of the Weeping Bells

A descent into the cobalt-fire mire of Drakonthar’s sanctuary

The Weight of the Weeping Bells

The Returning Shadow

The Marsh of Weeping Bells greeted the return of the Lions with the same discordant chime of rusted iron links as the day before. The previous day had been a lesson in futility, a crushing defeat against the weight of the Elder Wyrm’s cold ambition. Here, in the twilight, where the phosphorescent mist clung to the gnarled roots like a shroud, the wyrm known as Drakonthar waited, coiled within a basin of mercury-like pools and flickering necro-fire.

There was no hubris in their second descent. The silence of the marsh was interrupted only by the heavy, rhythmic tolling of the floating tombs above, a sound that promised a finality the Lions were determined to deny. As the wyrm’s gaze—a terrifying, hungry intelligence—locked onto the group, the air grew thick with the metallic tang of alchemical fire. The struggle was no longer about conquest; it was a desperate, agonizing attempt to survive a creature that viewed their very life force as fuel.

The Ritual of Burn and Bite

The engagement began with a display of calculated aggression. Stellarmane, Goldarion, Artisano, Dynarion, and Chromalio surged forward, their intent mirrored in the desperate efficiency of their strikes. Chromalio, showing no hesitation, pierced the wyrm’s obsidian hide with a toxic, corroding bite, forcing the creature to recoil. Yet, Drakonthar was not a beast to be cowed. With a flick of its massive, serrated tail, it unleashed an eruption of ancient flame that clung to the Lions like molten tar, the heat bypassing armor to gnaw at their very constitution.

Mid-raid, confidence wavered as the wyrm’s vampiric hunger claimed its due. Artisano fell beneath a focused assault, and the air echoed with the hissed promise of the wyrm: 'Bring me the healthiest among you.' It was a predatory cadence, a rhythm of survival that demanded constant, painful regeneration. The Lions were forced to burn through their own internal reserves just to stay upright, stitching together wounds with arcane healing while the necro-fire continued to pulse in the marsh gas around them.

The Breaking Point

The turning point arrived not through strength, but through a fleeting, desperate disruption. Chromalio surged ahead, delivering a shadow-piercing strike that echoed through the vaulted cavern of the marsh. For a heartbeat, the wyrm was silenced, its cobalt breath trapped in its throat, its rhythmic tolling stilled. In that moment of absolute stillness, the Lions did not falter. They hammered against the obsidian scales, their strikes ringing out like iron against stone, shattering the creature's composure.

But the wyrm was resilient, feeding on the very energy spent to wound it. As the silence faded, Drakonthar lashed out, reclaiming its sovereignty over the marsh. It became a war of attrition, with the Lions pushing their physical limits until only the most hardened survived the final, searing onslaught of the Elder Wyrm’s defensive flames.

The aftermath was marked by a heavy, quiet stillness. The blue-flame mire had cooled, and the colossal floating tombs once again hung in a state of suspended, haunting serenity. The Lions stood amidst the shifting fog, their bodies taxed, their resolve tested, yet ultimately victorious. They had survived the hunger of the Elder Wyrm and reclaimed their place in the cycle of the marsh.

The payout was a testament to their harrowing endurance, with a total of 25900 PIXY distributed amongst the survivors. The hoard, long guarded by the wyrm's cold malice, finally yielded its treasures, including the recovery of a precious, albeit humble, Barrel which was successfully awarded to the victors.

Only when the tumult over The Marsh of Weeping Bells had fallen silent did the material consequence become clear: the raid treasury released exactly 25900 PIXY, while Stellarmane bore 5000 x Iron away from the ruins. The reward was no ledger entry, but a tangible mark left by the ordeal.
