An Abrupt Collision
The steel did not wait for a defensive perimeter to form. The vanguard charged directly from the wind-whipped fringe of the Steppe of Silent Monoliths, their boots churning the wet, amber grass into dark peat. Above them, the violet thunderstorm that had lingered since the previous day pressed lower, the pressurized air carrying the heavy scent of ground iron and electrical discharge. Gorath the World Breaker waited at the center of the leaning megaliths, a mountain of living basalt that seemed to absorb the dim afternoon light. Before the first rank could fully deploy, the titan shifted his immense bulk, driving his hands deep into the bedrock.
The resulting shockwave tore through the earth with a deafening, dry crack. The Tectonic Slam hit the four advancing warriors like a physical wall, throwing them off balance. Armor plate buckled under the kinetic strain. Lunastorm, his guard barely raised, was thrown backward, his leather harness tearing as he struck for a minor blow. Beside him, Dynarion was nearly driven to his knees, his defenses shattered by the concussive force. Yet, the vanguard refused to buckle. Verdantfear used the kinetic lift of the tremor to launch himself upward, channeling his ancestral strength into a devastating, critical strike. His weapon met the titan's craggy shoulder with a brilliant explosion of sparks, carving a deep fissure into the basalt. Seizing the momentary distraction, both Dynarion and Chromalio quickly drew upon their mystical reserves, weaving the glowing green threads of the ancient mending arts to bridge their torn mail and staunch their internal wounds before the dust could settle.
The Churning Earth
The respite was tragically brief. Gorath did not pause to nurse his cracked armor. Shifting his weight once more, the titan drew a long, grinding breath that sounded like stone sliding against stone. The bioluminescent blue minerals weeping from his seams flared to a blinding intensity. With a slow, deliberate stomp, he unleashed another localized tremor across the entire field. The secondary shockwave rippled through the fractured soil, bypassing the remnants of the vanguard's physical shields entirely.
This second wave proved catastrophic for Lunastorm. Already weakened by the initial impact, the scout's armor gave way completely under the seismic vibration. He was thrown into the tossing amber grass, unconscious and temporarily removed from the fight as the tempest raged on. The three remaining Lions stood isolated, their boots slipping on the shifting plates of earth. Sensing the rapidly closing window of opportunity, Dynarion and Chromalio executed rapid, desperate recovery techniques, tapping into their wild internal spirits to force their exhausted mana reserves to replenish. Verdantfear stood as a solitary bulwark between his allies and the towering titan, drawing upon his remaining energy to knit his own superficial wounds.
The Venom and the Verdict
The titan's presence projected a hollow, stone-cold weight that seemed to press the very air from the lungs of his challengers. A third, even more violent Tectonic Slam shattered the surrounding megaliths, sending sharp shards of prehistoric stone whistling through the gale. The sheer weight of the impact crushed the remaining defenses of the vanguard. Dynarion and Verdantfear, their bodies pushed beyond the absolute limit of endurance, were overwhelmed by the critical force of the upheaval. Both fell to the scarred earth, incapacitated side by side in the damp grass.
Only Chromalio remained standing, his feet planted in a deep tectonic fracture. Surrounded by the fallen, the agile warrior did not retreat. Instead, he lunged forward, weaving beneath the titan's massive swinging fists. With a furious, fluid motion, he executed a strike of chemical rot, driving his daggers deep into the glowing mineral seams of Gorath's leg. The blades sank deep, injecting a highly concentrated, bubbling poison directly into the titan's stone-like frame. The alchemical substance immediately began to hiss, eating away at the ancient basalt from the inside out, promising sustained, agonizing decay.
The venom ran hot through Gorath's animated veins as the fourth round commenced, but the titan’s sheer mass was too immense to be halted by toxin alone. With a slow, merciless tilt of his head, the World Breaker looked down at the last standing Lion. The storm clouds above broke into a sudden torrent of rain, washing the mineral silt from the titan's chest as he gathered his power one final time.
The final tectonic tremor collapsed the very ground beneath Chromalio's feet. Hit by a crushing, critical strike, the last guardian fell into the wet amber grass, his weapons slipping from his grasp. The silence that followed was absolute, broken only by the whistling gale of the Steppe. The fourth expedition had ended in total defeat. Gorath stood victorious and unbroken among the ancient, leaning stones, his craggy hide scarred but intact. He turned back to his silent vigil, slowly drawing the spoils of the fallen—including fresh iron, an alchemical measure, corn, and cabbage—deep into his ever-growing mineral hoard.
