The Initial Upheaval
The amber grass across the Steppe of Silent Monoliths had barely uprighted itself from the previous day's clash when nine Lions took up positions upon the cracked clay. The sky hung low in bruised indigo folds, holding the heavy tang of electrical discharge and pulverized iron above the leaning megaliths. At the center of the ring, Gorath the World Breaker stirred with a dull, subterranean rumble. Fine bioluminescent silt seeped from between his craggy armor plates, catching the pale flashes of lightning that rippled across the horizon.
There was no pause for formal deployment. The titan drove his weight down, unleashing a Tectonic Slam that split the turf in expanding arcs of kinetic force. Shockwaves slammed into the advancing rank, sending choked dust high into the gale as shields vibrated under the concussive strain.
The vanguard responded without hesitation, striking in a unified wave. Darklyn stepped straight into the upheaval, unleashing a Radiant Burst that blazed white across the amber plain and carved eight hundred and forty-four damage into the entity's chest. Aeroblade leapt clear of the buckled dirt to land an Attack of Panda on Gorath's shoulder plate for two hundred and seventy-two critical damage. Goldspirit and Chromalio flanked the boss in rapid succession; Goldspirit landed three hundred and ninety-six critical damage with an Attack of Panda while Chromalio sank a Toxic Bite into a basalt joint, binding four hundred and thirty-two damage and infusing the creature's rocky veins with alchemical venom. Ignix, Dynarion, Verdantfear, Goldarion, and Artisano anchored the line with swift, decisive blows of their own, ensuring every opening was answered.
Erosion of the Vanguard
As the venom began to burn through Gorath's inner core, the boss answered with another shuddering slam. The ground lurched violently upward, throwing dust and loose mineral dust into the eyes of the attackers. Darklyn drove forward to absorb the direct pressure with a sharp strike for five hundred and eighty-three damage, while Verdantfear, Goldspirit, Chromalio, Aeroblade, Ignix, and Dynarion turned to the restorative mending of Maya to knit their fractured guard.
By the third exchange, the titan's tectonic force began to take its toll. Another grinding tremor swept through the center of the plain. Ignix and Dynarion, caught near an expanding fault line, took the full concussive force of the upheaval and were driven into the churned dirt, unable to maintain their stance. Despite the loss, the remaining seven held their ground. Darklyn delivered five hundred and forty-nine damage straight into the boss's midsection, while Goldarion drew on Maya's energy to restore his vitality.
The fourth round brought a devastating escalation. Gorath shifted his massive bulk, slamming both fists into the soil for a fourth wave of destruction. The violent surge struck the front line head-on. Verdantfear, Artisano, and Aeroblade were thrown backward onto the grass, disabled by the crushing impact. Reduced to four, the squad countered immediately. Goldspirit drove a second Toxic Bite into the titan for six hundred and five damage, and Chromalio executed a Shadow Piercer that struck five hundred and seven critical damage straight through a hairline fissure.
The Last Standing Defender
The fifth tremor split the earth deeper, rolling across the battleground with unyielding weight. Darklyn took the brunt of the shock wave and fell beside Chromalio on the torn peat, leaving only two Lions active amidst the storm shadows. Goldarion managed one last critical strike for one hundred and twelve damage before the sixth round's seismic surge swept him off his feet.
Goldspirit remained as the final combatant.
Standing alone among the quiet megaliths and the fallen vanguard, Goldspirit adjusted his stance and stepped directly under the shadow of the titan. As the boss rumbled in the gloom, Goldspirit executed a swift Mist Veil for six hundred and ninety-three critical damage, veiling his movements in a shroud of energy. In the seventh round, with no remaining allies to share the boss's focus, Goldspirit surged forward again, landing another critical blow of six hundred and forty-seven damage that chipped fresh basalt from the entity's crag-skinned torso.
The eighth round brought the finality of the land itself. Gorath brought his heel down into the epicenter of the plain, channeling his remaining tectonic power into a sweeping concussive wave. The impact lifted the turf beneath Goldspirit's feet, casting the final Lion down onto the amber grass beside his companions.
Silence returned to the Steppe of Silent Monoliths, cold and absolute. Gorath stood alone amidst the leaning stones, his craggy hide scarred and weeping glowing mineral dust, yet fundamentally unbroken. The eleventh expedition had ended in defeat, leaving the titan rooted in the ancient soil, waiting for the next tremor of life to challenge his unyielding domain.
