The Ash-Choked Menhirs of Skydance

Five Lions challenge Drakonthar the Elder Wyrm beneath the storm-torn summit.

The Ash-Choked Menhirs of Skydance

The Initial Strike

Dynarion's armor buckled with a metallic crack under the direct weight of Drakonthar's sweeping tail, shattering iron plating in a violent instant. The Elder Wyrm lowered his obsidian-crested jaw, his burning coals of eyes fixing upon the vanguard as he rumbled, 'Mercy ended when you entered my domain.' Heat rippled across the muddy turf, igniting the fringe of Dynarion's cloak with the clinging embers of Ancient Flame.

Unfazed by the terrifying onset of dragonfire, Goldarion roared and triggered Rising Fury, stoking his attack power while delivering a swift opening blow. Behind him, Mysterion and Verdantfear sprang into motion across the rain-slick clay. Mysterion launched a ferocious Attack of Panda for a critical two hundred sixteen damage, carving deep grooves into the wyrm's bronze flank. Verdantfear matched the momentum, striking with his own critical Attack of Panda for two hundred fifty-four damage. Seizing the opening, Chromalio darted beneath a massive wing joint and sank a poisoned blade deep into a neck seam—a Toxic Bite that dealt four hundred forty-three damage and left virulent green alchemical venom bubbling against the boss's hide. Battered but resolute, Dynarion channeled Regeneration of Maya, weaving vital light to restore his seventy-nine lost health points.

Cruel Intentions and Rising Flames

The green poison seared into Drakonthar's system, but the Elder Wyrm responded with overwhelming fury. Spreading his gargantuan wings, he let loose a concussive shockwave of dragonfire across the plateau. Steel defenses groaned under the heat. Goldarion, Mysterion, Verdantfear, and Chromalio raised their shields, yet the kinetic blast stripped armor plates away and caught all four in the searing grasp of Ancient Flame. Only Dynarion retained his mail, though his health wavered under the mounting heat.

Goldarion countered with a fierce critical broadsword strike for one hundred seventy-seven damage, while the vanguard scrambled to recover mana through defensive focus and healing weaves. Yet Drakonthar smelled vulnerability. Locking his smoldering gaze on the battered rank, the wyrm snarled, 'The wounded belong to me.' Exploiting his cruel instinct against weakened prey, Drakonthar launched another crushing aerial assault. The wave shattered Chromalio's remaining armor and drove Dynarion to the damp soil, eliminating him from the active line.

Even as burns bit into their flesh, the remaining vanguard fought on. Goldarion swung with furious precision, landing another critical hit for one hundred eighty damage. Verdantfear closed the distance and invoked a dark Blood Ritual, dealing two hundred four damage and stealing dragon vitality to stitch his own wounds, opening a gushing bleed along the boss's chest. Chromalio wove Regeneration of Maya to restore one hundred five health points, keeping his footing against the howling gale.

The Breaking Point

By the fourth exchange, poison and blood loss chipped steadily at Drakonthar's towering strength, but the cumulative strain of Ancient Flame began to dismantle the Lions. The wyrm slammed his body into the mud once more, forcing the four survivors to absorb terrifying concussive trauma. Mysterion refused to yield; springing from a leaning menhir, he drove a second Toxic Bite straight into Drakonthar's throat for a critical four hundred forty-four damage, re-inflicting a deadly green poison.

Goldarion channeled Regeneration of Maya to mend his shattered body for two hundred seventy-six health, while Verdantfear healed ninety-seven HP and Chromalio hammered a critical weapon strike into the wyrm's hide for three hundred seventy-eight damage. Yet every action came at a burning price. Stacked fire ticks scorched through flesh and leather, draining vitality with every passing second.

The fifth exchange brought catastrophe. Drakonthar swept his tail across the mud, catching the battered warriors in a terrifying flurry of bronze scale and dragon flame. Chromalio took the brunt of the critical assault; despite his desperate endurance, the lingering burns combined with the blow proved fatal, forcing him down into the sodden grass, eliminated from the fray. Goldarion and Verdantfear mustered their final strength, swinging for sixty and one hundred twenty-one physical damage, but their strikes lacked the power to turn the tide.

Round 4

The sixth exchange opened with the quiet, unrelenting tick of toxin and bleed against Drakonthar's hardened hide, but the vanguard had no strength left to mount an attack. Standing amid the rain-slick menhirs, Goldarion and Verdantfear collapsed under the relentless, stacked heat of Ancient Flame. Their vitality burned away to nothing as the storm howled overhead.

Silence returned to the high plateau of Skydance. Drakonthar stood triumphant amidst the ancient standing stones, his bronze scales dripping with green venom and dark blood, yet his massive frame remained unshaken. The expedition ended in complete defeat. All five Lions lay still beneath the racing storm shadows, their courage proven in fire, while the Elder Wyrm reclaimed the lonely, windswept heights of his ancient mountain domain.
